ORTLIEB
In 1982, Hartmut Ortlieb started ORTLIEB Sportartikel GmbH in Nuremberg, Germany. By 1997, the company moved to Heilsbronn. The first ORTLIEB bike panniers were created out of Hartmut's need for waterproof gear, which was not available at the time. He made the first products—dry bags and bike panniers—using his mother’s sewing machine and truck tarps. Hartmut and his friends tested these prototypes on their biking and climbing trips.
Today, ORTLIEB has over 300 employees and offers more than 500 products, all made in Germany. The company uses advanced welding techniques to ensure high quality and waterproof performance. ORTLIEB products feature innovative closure systems like roll closures and waterproof zippers, setting new standards in the outdoor market.
ORTLIEB sells directly to specialized retailers in Germany and ships worldwide to over 30 countries. All products come with a 5-year warranty, and the company prioritizes excellent customer service.
Sustainability is also important to ORTLIEB. Since 2008, they have been a member of the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA), supporting projects that protect the environment globally.
